Potentiometer detection method

Potentiometer testing methods. Measure the total resistance value of potentiometer 1~3 with appropriate ohm block to see if it is within the nominal value. Connect the meter pen between the 1 and 2 or 2-3 leads and repeatedly and slowly rotate the potentiometer shaft to see if the meter pointer changes continuously and evenly. The resistance value should vary continuously between nominal values near zero ohms.

       Potentiometer common failures and repair:

       1. Potentiometer faults include high rotational noise, pin internal disconnection, resistor body wear, burnout, switch damage, etc.

       2. Rotating noise potentiometer is mainly due to the resistor body wear, so that the contact between the moving piece contact and the resistor body poor contact, the resistance value is large and small, resulting in 'click, click' sound, available multimeter according to the aforementioned method of detection, it will be found that the pointer has jump phenomenon.

       3. For this failure of the potentiometer, the available cleaning method to troubleshoot. That is, use tweezers to clamp on a cotton ball dipped in anhydrous alcohol, so that the cotton ball close to the shaft, so that the alcohol along the shaft into the resistor body, and constantly rotate the shaft until the noise disappears.

       4. When the potentiometer pin internal break, there will be potentiometer does not work phenomenon, that is, rotate the spindle without any change in the current or voltage of the circuit. For the volume potentiometer, there may be no sound failure, or the volume off the phenomenon, when using a multimeter to detect the resistance between the two fixed pins or fixed pins and sliding contact pins, the resistance value of infinity or close to infinity, it can be judged that the pins are internally disconnected.

       5. Carbon film resistor body due to overcurrent will also be seriously burned and caused by open circuit. For the pin internal break or resistor body burned and open circuit potentiometer, generally are inconvenient to repair, and use the method of replacement.
