Rotary coding Switches for Detecting Linear Displacementnt

Rotary coded switches are usually used to detect the rotation angle of an object, not the linear displacement. However, there are situations where we may need to use a rotary coded switch to detect linear displacement of an object, such as in some low speed, low precision, simple mechanical control systems.




    One way to detect the linear displacement of an object using a rotary coded switch is to use a roller and a slider to convert the rotary motion into a linear motion, and then detect it by a rotary coded switch.

 

    This is done as follows: First, a rotary code switch is fixed to one end of a mechanical moving part, then a slider is placed next to the rotary code switch and the slider is fixed to the moving part. Next, a roller is installed on the slider and the roller is placed perpendicular to the rotation axis of the rotary code switch.

 

    When the object undergoes linear displacement, the slider moves with it and converts the rotary motion into linear motion by means of the roller. At the same time, the rotary code switch will also follow the rotation of the roller to detect the linear displacement of the object. Finally, the output signal from the rotary coded switch can be processed to obtain information about the motion of the object.

 

    It should be noted that both accuracy and stability may be problematic when using rotary coded switches to detect the linear displacement of an object, as this method relies on the friction of the rollers and sliders and the accuracy of the mechanical structure. Therefore, it needs to be evaluated and improved on a case-by-case basis when making practical applications.
